Why we farm organically

We believe nourishing food comes from healthy soil, without any chemical inputs such as synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, etc.

When we started farming in the 80’s, conventional farming methods were all we knew. Eventually, we learned of the negative impacts things like herbicides and pesticides could have on soil health, not to mention our own health, as we were constantly exposed to chemicals when farming. We made the leap from conventional to organic in the 90’s, and became certified organic through NOFA-NY in 1999.

Our farming methods rely on age old practices such as cover crops, crop rotation, organic animal manure for fertilizer, and lots of weeding by hand. We believe farming with organic methods fosters a healthier soil environment, and subsequently healthier food for all of us!
